Custom Stained Glass

By Laura Goff Parham

Laura Goff DesignsWhile there are the obvious technical aspects of working with and designing stained glass, it is the artistic component of this craft that is my passion and has captured my imagination for nearly three decades to become my life’s work. I guess it was my grandmother’s influence on me as a child that started me on my journey. She would fill jars of varied shapes, sizes, and textures with colored water. Placed on a shelf that would allow the afternoon sun to illuminate them, I was mesmerized by the lovely patterns of light they would cast on the surrounding walls and floor. My parents encouraged me as well, and when my father began to pursue stained glass as a hobby, I began to appreciate both the technical and creative aspects of this art form.

After completing my bachelor’s degree in Art History at UT in 1986, I spent six months in Europe immersing myself in art and architecture. It was then that I truly fell in love with stained glass and decided to make creating art glass my life’s calling. Since then, I have created thousands of stained glass windows. I have served in many positions in the Stained Glass Association of America, where I have also taught Introduction to Glass Painting. I love creating art glass, and my passion is best demonstrated in the high-quality and diverse products that I create at my Laura Goff Designs studio in Knoxville.

Today I work hand-in-hand with homeowners, businesses, and churches who wish to create something truly unique for their homes, places of business, or places of worship. Also, while I’m the artist, I’m also a facilitator, helping my clients express their very own artistic natures through glass art.

While there are a few limitations to how glass can be used, there are no limitations on my imagination or skills. I design stained glass, leaded glass, beveled glass, and sand blasted glass. My passion is hand-painted and kiln-fired stained glass. All is right with the world when I have a paintbrush in my hand. I often design cabinet doors, entry doors, sand blasted commercial logos, and ecclesiastical windows. I create antique mirror walls and decorative mirrors. I also repair and restore stained glass.

If you would like to discover just how glass can be creatively used throughout your entire home or facility, and to create the one-of-a-kind, designer-inspired works of glass art that will truly put the “custom” into your custom home, office, or church, I invite you to visit my studio Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 pm or to call me to set up a personal consultation.
