As you look back on your life, there are likely plenty of things that you’re glad that you did. Maybe it was asking a certain person out on a date even though you didn’t know how they would answer. Or maybe it was taking that special trip to the Grand Canyon with your family.
But there are also lots of things that you probably wish you had done sooner. I remember replacing the slow old showerhead in our master bathroom with a luxurious new model. The old one was in place for years because I thought it would be difficult to change. Turns out that it was literally as simple as twisting the old one off and twisting the new one on. Every single morning I’m thankful for getting it done!
You might also have a list in your mind of things that you know you really should do. Time has a tendency of getting away from us and quickly those “should do” things turn into “I wish I had.”
Is financial planning on that list? Here are some things you may be wondering about:
- Have I done all the right things to protect my family?
- Are we investing wisely – or just winging it?
- Have we saved enough and in the right places? Do we need to be saving more?
- Am I spending too much in retirement or too little?
- Am I making wise decisions when it comes to taxes?
Many people delay making financial decisions not because they lack the funds, but because they’re unsure of what to do. The volume of information that floods our screens each day can overwhelm anyone’s ability to process information and decide. Life gets busy, and everyday concerns often crowd out long-term financial goals.
Others postpone seeking answers because they’re afraid of what they might find out. Sometimes it’s easier to stay busy today than to contemplate what’s coming in the future. I believe that planning is better than hoping.
An old proverb says “The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago; the second best time is now.” So what are you waiting for?
