Yong Ho Kwan ATA Martial Arts, a new Taekwondo school located on Kingston Pike in Heritage Square, is led by ATA Chief Master Choung Soo Ko, an 8th Degree Black Belt with 47 years of martial arts experience. Taekwondo is a Korean martial art known for its dynamic kicking techniques, physical fitness, self-defense training, and emphasis on discipline and respect. Chief Master Ko’s vision is for Yong Ho Kwan to become not just a place for Taekwondo classes but a place where children are encouraged, parents feel welcome, families can grow together, and students learn that becoming a Black Belt is about much more than what they wear around their waist. It is about the person they become along the way.
Originally from South Korea, Chief Master Ko brought his experience and passion for Taekwondo to the United States, where he has spent decades teaching generations of students. Throughout his competitive career, he has also earned World Championship titles in ATA Taekwondo.
“Martial arts can teach children much more than physical skills,” said Chief Master Ko. “We want them to develop confidence, discipline, respect, perseverance, and the courage to keep trying when something is difficult.”
Yong Ho Kwan offers programs for students of different ages and experience levels, beginning with its Tiger Program for children ages 4-6. These classes are active, positive, and encouraging while helping children develop confidence, focus, coordination, listening skills, and respect. Programs continue for older children, teens, adults, Black Belts, and families who would like to train together. Students learn martial arts skills while also learning how to set goals, overcome challenges, respect others, and continue working when something does not come easily.
