Dogwood Arts is excited to announce the addition of the first new Dogwood Trail to be added to the Historic Dogwood Trails & Gardens program in more than 20 years!
The West Hills Dogwood Trail, with more than eight miles of blooming landscapes, will make its official debut during Knoxville’s favorite springtime celebration!
West Hills is one of the most established, largest, and most cherished Knoxville neighborhoods. Developed in the 1950s, West Hills was the city’s first major post-World War II subdivision to consist primarily of modern ranch-style houses. West Hills has managed to retain its residential character, due in large part to “its aggressive neighborhood advocacy group,” the West Hills Community Association.
We recognize the early efforts of the West Hills Garden Club and Beautification Committee, along with the foresight of original homeowners who planted dogwoods, maintained gorgeous yards, and nurtured blooming gardens throughout the 60+ years of West Hills’ history.
Follow the Pink Lines
The first Dogwood Trail was planted in 1955, and now you can “follow the pink lines” through miles of architecturally diverse neighborhoods in all four quadrants of the city from April 1-30. The City of Knoxville uses roughly 100 gallon of custom-blended paint each year to make sure the trails stay bright pink throughout the spring season. Take a drive, a walk, or a bike ride and enjoy the scenic natural beauty of our region!
Spring Featured Gardens April 9-10
Each garden is unique in design and offers a variety of plants and special features. We are honored that these residents have opened their properties to the public as a part of our annual celebration of East Tennessee’s natural beauty.
