Clinton Glass

Discover the Beauty of Custom Glass Shower Enclosures

First launched in 1957, Clinton Glass quickly earned a reputation throughout East Tennessee as a trusted glass supplier for residential and business customers. Today Clinton Glass has become the area’s number one supplier of frameless shower glass. Under the careful leadership of co-owners and husband and wife team, Greg and Kim Stowell, and their dedicated staff, Clinton Glass has installed more than 10,000 custom showers.

What is even more impressive is the fact that Clinton Glass has become the only frameless shower glass company in East Tennessee that has its own fabrication facility where shower glass is fabricated and tempered in-house. Further, because all work is performed by their employees and not subcontractors, Clinton Glass offers a truly turnkey customer experience you are not likely to find anywhere else.

Homeowners hoping to create that showroom quality look and feel in their home’s bathrooms need not look any further than Clinton Glass. Their all-new showroom located within their state-of-the-art, on-site fabrication facility on Middlebrook Pike features 27 full-sized shower displays designed to inspire you. Unlike many showrooms you might visit today, this one-of-a-kind showroom is more of a discovery center, where you will see all of the possibilities that exist when creating your home’s new designer-inspired, custom glass shower enclosure.

In this issue of Everything Knoxville, we are pleased to bring you this interview with Greg and Kim Stowell.

EK: Tell our readers a little bit about Clinton Glass’ 63 year history.

Greg: There have been only three owners since 1957. The store has transformed over time from a paint and glass store, to a commercial glass company, and now a residential shower glass specialty store.

EK: Your transition from commercial glass installation to custom shower glass was a major step. What did you see in your marketplace that inspired such a bold move?

Kim: During the recession, commercial glass sales dropped off, and home remodeling picked up as people decided to stay in their homes. As the demand increased, we grew with it, and now we install about 200 custom showers per month in East Tennessee.

EK: More than 10,000 bathrooms later, what role has your in-house design services played in your overall success?

Greg: We hear frequently that we can design showers that other companies have difficulty with. That comes from measuring and installing thousands of showers. We’ve developed systems and capabilities to make the process go smoothly for our clients.

EK: After a homeowner first contacts you, describe the typical customer experience.

Kim: One of the best ways for customers to start the process is by visiting our showroom.  Here they get to see, touch, and even step into the many different shower displays. Customers usually have an idea how they want their shower to look and feel, but a visit can offer them a chance to confirm or improve their design.

EK: At what stage of new construction or remodeling is it best for a homeowner to first contact you?

Greg: We like to talk to clients in the planning stage. Some glass companies think that’s too early and that you should only call them after the tile is complete. Contacting us early helps avoid any possible design concerns before they are constructed in the field.

EK: While a growing number of companies are outsourcing their work, Clinton Glass continues to rely only on its own employees. Why should that be important to your customers?

Kim: Our customers appreciate that our estimators and installers are all experienced, well-trained, fully insured, trusted employees. We arrive in badged company vehicles with Clinton Glass shirts. We survey our customers, and their feedback most often includes comments on how professional and courteous we are!

EK: You’ve actually taken your commitment to providing a truly turnkey customer experience to an all-new level with your new, state-of-the-art facility where you now fabricate and temper all of your own custom shower glass. Tell us more.

Greg: We control the entire process in-house, from the showroom to installation. And, much to our customer’s frequent surprise, we fabricate and temper our own glass in-house. This means we are not relying on an out-of-state glass fabricator who doesn’t know the intricacies of each job. It is wonderful having our crew handle every step, and I know our customers appreciate it!

EK: Why should this be important to your customers?

Kim: The biggest benefit has been quality control; we have complete control over the quality of our product! Also, with control of the glass fabrication, we have greater flexibility on the installation schedule. This has kept our installation lead times consistent.

EK: Tell our readers about your new inspirational showroom.

Greg: We have 27 full size showers on display in nearly every configuration imaginable. If you’re in the planning stages, come by and look, and you will get some great ideas. We frequently hear, “I never thought of that” or “I’m a very visual person, and now I know what our shower is going to look like.”

EK: What is the best way for our readers to learn more about Clinton Glass?

Kim: The quickest way is our website, www.clintonglasscompany.com, or our Facebook page, which is updated a few times a week with pictures of great shower installations. Of course a showroom visit is a must. And if you ask, Greg is happy to give shop tours of our fabrication and tempering equipment!

EK: In closing, is their anything else you would like to add?

Greg: We appreciate our wonderful customers and just want to thank them for allowing us into their homes to help create their dream baths.

Consignment Success Tips

Getting the Biggest Bang for Your Buck at Next To New!

If you are new to consignment, here’s how to make the most money with your consignment goods. Consignment shopping has been growing in popularity for years, and there is money to be made with these tips on how to make the most of your consignment experience at Next To New.

First, check your closet for merchandise that you no longer wear. Ask yourself, “Would I buy this again now?” If you answer no, consider selling these items yourself or donating them to charity.

The condition of the item and the original purchase date are key points. You may have a terrific suit with the original tags, but if you bought it 10 years ago, today’s savvy consignment customer will likely pass it by.

Before visiting your consignment store, check your items closely for any defects. A “pull here” or a “snag there” reduces your chance for success.

Make sure your items are cleaned or dry cleaned as necessary. All clothing should be pressed and presented on hangars. Customers will reward you for your efforts.

If you love it, just keep it. This should be an emotion-free business opportunity.

Here are 10 important things to consider when consigning:

1. At Next To New, we carry all major mall brands and all boutique designers.
2. Familiarize yourself with the brands the consignment store carries.
3. Consign items in season.
4. Consign best-selling sizes: For women, it’s sizes 10-16.
5. Consign designer accessories in any size.
6. Consign popular brands or classic brands that stand the test of time.
7. Bring a minimum of 20 flawless items (no missing buttons, stains, cleaned, pressed, and ready to sell) for the store to consider.
8. Accept the truth about the market value of your merchandise.
9. Next To New markets online, on local and cable TV, in magazines, and by email.
10. Our goal is to help you make as much money as possible.

Visit Next To New to learn more and to give your closet some much deserved breathing room. Our success is your success!

Happy New Year and Happy Savings!

The Lily Pad Boutique

January is a great time to reassess your winter wardrobe. There is finally time to go through all of the pieces hanging in your closet that haven’t been worn yet this year and either donate them or take them to your nearest consignment shop. Whichever you choose, you’ve begun the process of updating your own winter wardrobe while selections are still great and on sale!

At The Lily Pad, our sales are huge semi-annual events which take place in January and July. Our winter merchandise is now 25% off, and on Saturday, January 19th, at 10:00 am, every piece that’s left goes to 50% off! We’ve found this method to be quite effective to not only clear out the store, but also to pass tremendous savings on to our customers.

As the winter merchandise goes on sale, our “La Sale Boutique” (the big room in the rear of the store) goes to 70% off! Thus, the clearing out begins as we ready ourselves and the store for a brand new season! Spring fashions have been ordered, new, fresh looks are arriving and the holiday decorations have been put away for another year.

We’ll look forward to seeing so many of our customers and friends during our unbelievable sale days. If you’ve ever spent a day at Filene’s Basement in Boston, The Lily Pad is almost as wild on the first days of our sale! Plan to spend some time with us as you visit with friends and neighbors, every arm loaded with bargains and having the time of our lives! What a fun day during a not-so-fun month… it’s a social event you won’t want to miss!

At The Lily Pad, we reflect on how blessed we have been this year to again be a part of your lives. We truly appreciate the vote of confidence you place in us to be your fashion headquarters! Our most sincere wishes from the entire Lily Pad staff for a happy and healthy 2019!

Art Market Gallery

“BeDazzled” Jewelry Show

Made with Repix (http://repix.it)

The Art Market Gallery, a 60+ member juried artist co-operative in downtown Knoxville, celebrates Tennessee Craft Week October 5-14 by showcasing the work of five jewelry artisans. This special show, called “BeDazzled,” will run at the gallery throughout the month of October. Tennessee Craft Week is a collection of craft events and happenings taking place across the state every October. Its purpose is to connect and celebrate the work of craft artists and the businesses that support them.

The Art Market Gallery is lucky to have five talented jewelry artists as members: Roger Kroll, Jennifer Lindsay, Nancy Rowland-Engle, Lynn Straka, and Kristine Taylor. Each will have their work on display during “BeDazzled,” bringing their own perspectives, inspirations, and skills to the craft of jewelry making: Roger Kroll’s aim is to create a functional art form with his jewelry and metal art by exploring form, shape, color, and texture; Jennifer Lindsay fashions one-of-a-kind, intricately beaded pieces inspired by architecture, gardens, and historical customs; Nancy Rowland-Engle creates contemporary metallic jewelry with an edgy, sculptural form; Lynn Straka is influenced by nature in making her mixed-media jewelry, incorporating sterling silver, copper, and bronze with semi-precious stones; and Kristine Taylor is inspired by good design and beautiful color in crafting her unique polymer clay designs, blending contemporary and ancient forms with abstract images.

Please join us in celebrating these talented artists and some of the finest jewelry craft that Tennessee has to offer. In addition, you will also enjoy the wide variety of fine craft and fine art on display every day at the Art Market Gallery – voted Knoxville’s best place to buy art in 2016 and 2017 in the Knoxville News Sentinel poll.

Owned and operated by more than 60 professional regional artists, the Art Market Gallery is located at 422 South Gay Street next to Downtown Grill & Brewery. Hours are 11 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday, 11 am to 9 pm Friday, and 1 to 5 pm Sunday. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. 3rd Annual Fashion Fights Back Fashion Show

October 11 at 2:30
By Brenda Bryan, Owner of The Lily Pad

When recalling special moments and memories in the life of The Lily Pad, none is more memorable or meaningful than our annual Fashion Fights Back fashion show. On a beautiful sunny October afternoon, 10 of our customers who are either fighting their battle with breast cancer or are breast cancer survivors will model fall fashions at The Lily Pad. To support and honor our many customers and friends whose lives have been touched by this disease, we have pledged to support them in the way we do best… Fashion Fights Back!

As you know, nearly 250,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year… your mother, sister, daughter, wife, or even you! We have committed to give a portion of every item sold on this day to the American Cancer Society. There is no charge for admission.

On Thursday, October 11th, we will be honoring 10 more of our friends and family members who have witnessed firsthand the dreaded diagnosis of breast cancer. Please plan to join us at The Lily Pad as we again present Fashion Fights Back, a show by women for these women who are such an inspiration to all of us.

Also on this special day, Mr. Doyle Baker, our Joseph Ribkoff representative, will be hosting a trunk show of his fabulous line, presenting both immediate and a peek of what’s new for spring… plus a drawing for a Joseph Ribkoff jacket to a lucky winner.

Make your plans now to join us for this very inspirational day for all of our Lily Pad customers who have fought or are fighting their battle with breast cancer. Your ticket to the fashion show will be a donation to the American Cancer Society. Call 423-337-5537 or email lilypadboutique@bellsouth.net to reserve your seat.

Fall Color Trends

The richness expected from fall fashions will definitely not disappoint you this season; however, there may be some unexpected shades that might change how you consider spicing up your seasonal wardrobe! Pops of metallic and blaring neon will add a blast of color as you transition into the most glorious of all seasons… autumn!

Selected as color of the year by Pantone, ultra violet is one of the most feminine and will take you beautifully from summer into early fall.

Winter blues are welcomed, especially the richer, darker versions of royal… always a perfect shade for every skin tone and a preference of many women.

One color that stands out as a favorite in every designer’s collection… dark, rich, earthy, olive green. When worn alone, it is striking, or when combined with other colors, it’s gorgeous!  Consider it your new khaki, it’s so versatile!

These three colors are worn throughout every season and can easily be paired with all of the outstanding neutrals for fall. Black, charcoal, and shimmery grey will be your key basics when building your wardrobe this season at The Lily Pad, where selections are always plentiful.  Whether you are a size XS or XXL, we’ve got you covered!

Her Majesty Boutique

One of the latest and most exciting new business launches to take place in the historic shopping district in Sweetwater, Tennessee, is Her Majesty Boutique, the creation of Ashley Ingram, a 26-year-old entrepreneur and Sweetwater native. If Ashley’s name sounds familiar to you, that’s because she was our former Miss Tennessee United States in 2012 and is the current reigning Ms. Tennessee United States.

Ashley’s dreams of owning her own boutique go back to her high school years and her time at Tennessee Wesleyan University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in business in 2014. Her natural disposition for competition found in the pageants she has competed in, and continues to compete in today, has helped Ashley prepare for the rigors of entrepreneurship and the competition found in the retail business world.

Her dream of small business ownership came to life in 2016 when Her Majesty Boutique was launched as an online boutique and less than a year later as both an online and brick and mortar retail boutique, which is located in one of downtown Sweetwater’s most historic buildings, the Carter Brick Mason Building, at 111 N. Main Street. Her Majesty Boutique can be found on the building’s second floor, Suite D.

Ashley’s goal is to bring affordable mainstream fashion to Main Street in the town she grew up in. Customers genuinely appreciate Ashley’s natural flair for fashion that she has learned firsthand from her years of pageant experience and that allows her to help each of her customers to both look and feel like a queen when they leave her boutique.

Inside the boutique, you will discover a selection of stylish and trendy, yet affordable, apparel lines from designers that Ashley has discovered personally. You will also find ladies’ accessories, including designer-inspired jewelry and handbags, as well as a large selection of gifts for all occasions. Also, be sure to check out the boutique’s newest addition – the cutest and most affordable baby clothing you’re likely to find anywhere.
