It’s that time of year once again to make resolutions for 2018. In fact, an estimated 58% of Americans routinely or occasionally make New Year’s resolutions.

So what are the top resolutions we make? Four out of 10 of the most common resolutions involve health and fitness. In this issue of Everything Knoxville, we are excited to share with you our recent interview with Fitness Together owners, Andrew Henderson and Shea Sims.

EK: Tell our readers how the concept of Fitness Together came about.

Andrew: Fitness Together was originally created to provide a place where people who were not into the “big gym” setting could go to exercise in private. While personal training as we know it has been around since the 1980s, Fitness Together’s unique and proprietary fitness model of fully equipped, private training suites adds the extra privacy and focus on the client that is difficult to find elsewhere.

EK: How does Fitness Together differ from the other weight loss or fitness programs that our readers may have tried in the past?

Shea: At Fitness Together, we take a very comprehensive approach to our clients’ health. We start each new client off with a full fitness, postural, and nutritional assessment in order to create a customized fitness program designed to help them to achieve their individual goals. We combine sound, scientifically based exercise, and nutrition principles to enhance our clients’ potential for success. Finally, we help guide each of our clients to establish ambitious but realistic expectations. We don’t push supplements or fad diets, and we know that most people don’t have (or want to spend) two hours a day and six days a week at the gym. We create fitness programs designed to blend into each client’s everyday lifestyle.

EK: Why is it so important that each client is partnered with his or her own personal trainer?

Andrew: Our clients’ success is based largely on accountability to their personal trainer and to themselves. Establishing that personal accountability and that relationship with the trainers is crucial! At Fitness Together, we go one step further by taking a “team” approach with our clients, providing them with the opportunity for them to work with a variety of trainers, each possessing unique skills designed to enhance your personal experience.

EK: Describe the level of training that your Fitness Together personal trainers possess.

Shea: Each of our personal trainers are certified through well-respected national organizations such as NASM, ACSM, and ACE, and all of our trainers are required to obtain advanced certifications as well. Almost all of our trainers hold bachelor level degrees in an exercise related field, and five trainers have earned master’s degrees. Because we understand that education is an ongoing process, our trainers meet every week to discuss new research findings and applied techniques for exercise designed to offer you the best possible outcome. In addition, we also invite a physical therapist to our staff training sessions monthly to help us better understand how to train clients with physical limitations and injuries.

EK: Do you offer no-cost, no-obligation consultations to potential new clients?

Andrew: Yes, we do! During your initial consultation, we will help to identify those main areas of concern you wish to address, make recommendations for what type of training is best for you to enhance your potential for success, and encourage you to participate in a light session before any decisions are made!
