Pursuing your life’s ambition can be very challenging to say the least, but pursing two separate ambitions requires an even higher level of discipline that very few entrepreneurs learn to successfully navigate. Brian Vodinh is just such a person. So just how does a person balance his passion for music – which involves having been a founding member and main songwriter of the popular international touring rock band called 10 Years, owning his own recording and audio production facility called Rain Song Creative, being a Universal/Republic Records recording artist and releasing several albums and even a chart-topping number one single with the rock hit “Wasteland,” and helping handle audio post production responsibilities for television shows such as Discovery Channel’s popular Sons of Guns and Animal Planet’s Wild West Alaska series – with his enormous passion for real estate?

This month Everything Knoxville is excited to bring you this interview with Brian Vodinh, who resides with his wife, Brooke, and their three children in Knoxville. This enormously talented young man will share with you how he has been able to transform his music career into a successful real estate career at The Brian Vodinh Group at Keller Williams.

EK: Many of us have followed more than one career path in our lives, but few of us can claim to have sold more than one million albums and singles, let alone composing the score of a Hollywood feature film. While music and real estate careers may appear to have little in common, there are in fact a great many similarities. Each requires the ability to work with a team, advertising, marketing, and financial skills, not to mention excellent negotiating and people skills. Tell our readers just how these skills that you developed in your 15+ year music career has helped your clients in your real estate career.

Brian: One of the most important things I have learned throughout the years is to be authentic and to always conduct myself with integrity and honesty. Big sales pitches and tons of fluff are unnecessary and can hinder the process. As a musician that has been through the process of signing a multi-million dollar recording contract and touring all across the world, one of the things I joke about is that there is more business than music in the music business. It was certainly a crash course in fine-tuning my people skills and negotiating tough contracts, both of which have greatly benefitted my real estate clients.

EK: Tell us why you selected Keller Williams Realty.

Brian: Keller Williams was the right fit. The culture within Keller Williams was very attractive to me. It’s now the industry leading firm, and the education and support they provide to their agents really made them the best choice for me.

EK: Your real estate team, The Brian Vodinh Group at Keller Williams Realty, is made further unique as your wife, Brooke, is a key member of your team. Truly a family business, how do you feel that benefits your clients?

Brian: One of our children, who is now almost 10 months old, was born more than three months premature. The adventure with our little girl began at our 20-week checkup at the doctor when we found out that Brooke was in the midst of premature labor and there was a strong chance we could lose our little angel. We are more than gracious for the amazing team at UT Medical Center who were able to maintain Brooke’s pregnancy until 27 weeks and then take such great care of our little girl in the NICU for nearly five months. Brooke and I made a pact that if we could get through this challenge together, then we could get through anything, and I can say with absolute confidence that we make an incredible team! When someone calls us for their real estate needs, they don’t just get me, they also get Brooke. With her extensive sales experience, there is no aspect of a real estate transaction that she cannot handle. I’m very proud to call her my wife, business partner, and best friend.


EK: Tell our readers how our area residential real estate marketplace has evolved during the last five years and what our outlook is for the future.

Brian: The future is very bright in housing! Knoxville is a superb market and will continue to see consistent growth. Areas such as Farragut and Hardin Valley are growing stronger and thriving from the continued expansion of area commercial developments, as well as offering top-notch educations from some of the highest rated schools in the state of Tennessee.

EK: You have been selected to represent an area developer and take the lead on sales and acquisitions for a very large, brand new West Knoxville residential project, as well as helping the firm with sales in Farragut’s Split Rail Farm subdivision. Why do you feel that The Brian Vodinh Group was selected to represent these very important communities?

Brian: First, I would like to commend the management team at Development & Design Concepts for the fine work they do. They pay very close attention to detail and genuinely care about the quality of service that they provide. My relationship with them developed out of a mutual respect for each other’s work, and I believe they respect my tireless work ethic and commitment to achieving successful outcomes for both their customers and DDC. Also, both DDC and The Brian Vodinh Group share the same objective, which is to go above and beyond for our clients and exceeding their expectations.

EK: In closing, is there anything else you would like to say to our readers?

Brian: After I made the decision to stop touring with the band and be home permanently with my family, I knew that helping people with their real estate needs was what I would do for the rest of my life. Finding the perfect home for someone, or selling their home, is a truly gratifying experience. Much like writing a song that pulls at someone’s heart strings, finding a family the home of their dreams is equally as fulfilling.
